Another round of fieldwork

Ten days of holidays first and then our next fieldwork will start: new people, a new area and a new topic. We will be examining ancient tsunami deposit on the island of Pra Thong, which is located a two hour drive north of Phuket.

Kruawun Jankaew, a researcher from Chulalongkorn University has been studying the pre-2004 tsunami deposits on this island for a number of years and has published several articles about her investigations. Now Dr. Jankaew has invited us to join her to Pra Thong. She will co-supervise Linda Löwhagen, one of the teachers in our research school on natural hazards, who will work on characterizing some of the pre-2004 tsunami sediments for her licentiate thesis.

We will be a rather large group this time, comprising teachers, Thai and Swedish geology students and Hywel George from Plastic Buddha Productions, who will document the work done by the research school licentiate students.
